Camins del Priorat
One of our favourite wines from the whole of Spain. It's made by the great Alvaro Palacios in the Priorat region, north west of Tarragona.
Age 43, Alvaro is the son of the respected Rioja wine family Palacios Remondo. After studying enology in Bordeaux he worked at Ch Pétrus. Drawn to the rugged, hot, mountainous area of El Priorat, he bought his first finca in 1990 and has since created some of the most important wines of a generation in Spain.
With Camins del Priorat Alvaro has achieved a fine wine which reveals the characteristics of the Priorat region (fruits, minerals) without the price tag of the classics. It's a fine accompaniment to Spanish iberico ham. The Camins del Priorat 2009 offers a very attractive price for a top quality Priorat red wine.
It has a clear ruby colour, aromatic nose with undertones of red berries and spice. Silky texture. Hint of raspberry flavours. Long finish.
Frankly, at this price, you'd be mad to let this one get away.
